Before Arriving to Maldives
When you make plans to visit Maldives please check if the travel agent or resort is registered with the Ministry Tourism, Arts and Culture of Maldives.After you’ve agreed upon all the items in the contract with the agency, confirm directly with hotel that your reservation was indeed made and if the hotel meets all the requirements set for in the contract.Get all available information about your destination from the Tourism website or through the specific website of the resort. You can also obtain this through fax or promotional materials.Make hotel reservations in advance and request written confirmation via fax, internet or other means.
While In Male.’
Avoid walking on deserted streets and alleyways. Avoid walking through places with overgrown vegetation during nighttime.While travelling in Male by car or pickup please keep your valuables in front of you, and do note down the number of the Taxi.If you think you are being followed go inside a commercial building.When you are in restaurants or open air café’s do not leave you purse, wallet digital cameras on the table or in a place where you will forget about. Keep personal belongings in sight.If you miss your launch or ferry service to the resort please come to the main Headquarters of the police or call the Tourist Police number.
When Banking
If you need to exchange currency or make withdrawal at an ATM when you arrive at Male International Airport, these facilities are available at the airport.These facilities are also available in Male. Please do not accept help from strangers with help on how to use the ATM machine and do not give your card to strangers.Please make sure while shopping that the sales person does not run your card a second time if they do it manually. Always request customer’s copy of the transaction and check the value of the purchase before signing.
How we Handle your Complaints.
- We strive to handle your lodged case or complaints in a speedy and timely manner.
- Lodged cases or complaints are assigned to an Investigation Officer (IO).
- If a Police Report is desired give details of where it can be mailed or make arrangements with your embassies or consulates.
- We will provide an officer or a person who can speak your language to assist the IO and you.
At the Hotel or Resort.
- Ask for safety deposit boxes to put your valuables in it.
- Leave the room key at the reception while you go out.
- Do not give your passport as an in lieu of advance payment to the hotel.
- Do not let strangers enter your room without identification and if you have to don’t leave them unattended.
- Do not leave valuable belongings like cameras, purses, wallets, watches lying around the hotel pool or restaurant or other services you may use at the hotel or resort
Things you can do to safeguard yourself.
- Do not give your cell phone or mobile phone to strangers even for emergency calls.
- Please keep some form of identification with yourself while travelling in Maldives
- Do not leave your phones and valuable belongings and bags unattended on tables at restaurants or hotels.
- If a stranger offers to help you and take you anywhere, please make sure that the person is a licensed taxi driver or the vehicle is a liscensed vehicle under a company and make sure that you note down the taxi number as well. Also, please make sure that you don’t follow anybody to any isolated areas. If you sense that something is wrong, please do not hesitate to contact the Tourist Police.

- Never flash money, jewelry, or valuables around
- Always attend to your bags - Use the hotel safes
- Utilize the police for help or information / the Tourist Police can provide you with information on how to contact your embassy/consulate.
- Ask hotel personnel about the safety of your destinations
You can approach any Police Patrolman to make a complaint. Police men and women are easy to identify while in Male. Some will wear a fluorescent vest with Police written at the back of the vest.
