Police Seize Over 100KG of Illegal Drugs

IMG-0244f27d1c16aad29032d5fcee3ebcaa-V-e1634289192725 Maldives Police Services has seized over 100 kilograms of illegal drugs and made several arrests in the ongoing operations to stop drug trafficking and distribution in the Maldives. Based on information received by Maldives Police Intelligence, a number of locations were searched in Male’, Hulhumale’ and various uninhabited islands. The seizure was made at an uninhabited island during the operation. Individuals arrested in the operation include 8 locals and 2 foreigners, all males aged between 19 and 61.   As the investigation continues, the court has released 2 suspects, granted 10 days remand for 4 suspects, 10 days remand for 3 suspects, and 5 days remand for 1 suspect.  The 2 people released by Criminal Court are the main suspects identified in this operation and Maldives Police Service has requested Prosecutor General’s Office to appeal the decision. Drug Enforcement Department (DED) is continuing the investigation of this case.
