Commissioner of Police Joins Minister of Homeland Security and Technology in Meeting with President of Sri Lanka

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Hon. Ali Ihusan, met today with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake of Sri Lanka. The Commissioner of Police, Ismail Naveen, also participated in the meeting, during which matters of mutual interest in the areas of law enforcement and security were discussed.


The meeting explored avenues for enhanced collaboration between the Maldives Police Service and the Sri Lanka Police. Discussions focused on several key areas, including capacity building in operational policing and investigations, as well as the inclusion of Maldivian officers in Special Task Force training conducted by the Sri Lanka Police.


As part of the discussions, the Maldives extended an invitation for Sri Lanka to nominate two police officers to participate in the upcoming forensic diving course conducted by the Maldives Police Service, an initiative aimed at strengthening regional capabilities in underwater forensic investigation.

The meeting further highlighted the importance of cooperation in tackling transnational crime and drug trafficking, areas of growing concern in the region. In addition, there was a fruitful exchange of ideas on capacity building and experience sharing, particularly highlighting the Maldives Police Service's work in handling cases related to children and families under the Family and Child Protection wing.


Commissioner Naveen expressed his appreciation for the longstanding partnership between the two countries’ police forces and reaffirmed the Maldives Police Service’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation through mutual support and training.
