22 Sep

The Maldives Police Service contributed to a major international law enforcement operation, led by the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Interior, aimed at combating online child sexual exploitation and abuse.

The seven-week campaign, which ran from July 10 to August 31, 2025, brought together agencies from 15 countries, including Maldives, Russia, Thailand, Indonesia, Nepal, Peru, Brazil, and others.

One of the largest operations of its kind, the coordinated effort resulted in the arrest of 188 suspects, the rescue of 165 victims worldwide, and the disruption of 28 illegal distribution networks for child sexual abuse materials. Authorities also shut down 113 user accounts, seized 153 electronic devices, and launched 76 awareness campaigns to promote online safety.

This joint action reflects the Maldives’ growing commitment to combating online child exploitation through international collaboration. By supporting global enforcement and awareness efforts, the Maldives reinforces its determination to protect children and strengthen cyber safety across borders.
