Commissioner of Police Meets AFP Commissioner to Strengthen Partnership

Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen met with AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett and expressed sincere appreciation for the long-standing professional partnership between the Maldives Police Service and the Australian Federal Police. He acknowledged the valuable support the AFP has provided over the years to help strengthen policing in the Maldives.
During the meeting, the two commissioners discussed a wide range of future capacity-building opportunities. Key areas included drug enforcement, financial analysis, major crime management, cybercrime investigations, and efforts to dismantle scam syndicates that target the region. Both sides also spoke about enhancing cooperation to counter transnational crime and prevent illegal tobacco smuggling into the Maldives by criminal networks operating across borders.
Commissioner Naveen reaffirmed the commitment of the Maldives Police Service to further deepen its collaboration with the AFP. He stressed the importance of working together to enhance operational capacity, protect communities, and face emerging criminal threats in the region.

During the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Australian Federal Police and the Maldives Police Service, marking a renewed commitment to closer cooperation and shared security goals.
