A Maldivian police officer is currently participating in a community policing programme being conducted in Tokyo, Japan, with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Inspector of Police Ahmed Guraisy is representing the Maldives Police Service in the programme.
The international training programme, held from 13 to 30 May 2026, brings together officers from law enforcement agencies of different countries to share knowledge and practical experience in community policing.
The programme provides participants with the opportunity to study Japan’s community policing model, including approaches used to strengthen police-public relations, enhance community engagement, and improve service delivery.
Through the programme, participants are expected to further develop the technical skills required to strengthen community policing practices in their respective countries. It also offers exposure to police training methods and practical frameworks used in Japan to build trust and cooperation between the police and the community.
Participation in such international training programmes is an important opportunity to enhance the professional capacity of police officers, strengthen community-oriented policing practices, and further improve the services delivered to the public.
