
An information session was conducted for drivers newly registered with the MTCC Taxi Line to enhance their awareness of road transport laws and promote safe driving practices.
The session was jointly organised by the Road Safety Awareness and Prevention of the Maldives Police Service and the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) on 3 June 2026. It aimed to familiarise drivers with the legal requirements governing road transport, highlight key responsibilities of drivers, and strengthen awareness of road safety and safe driving practices.
During the session, participants were briefed on the Road Traffic Act and the standards and requirements established under the legislation for operating vehicles. Information was also shared on important safety considerations while driving, compliance with traffic regulations, and the importance of observing traffic signs and road markings.
In addition, drivers were provided with guidance on vehicle safety checks that should be carried out before commencing a journey, as well as best practices for ensuring the safety of passengers and other road users.
The session also covered the roles and responsibilities of drivers in responding to road traffic accidents and other incidents that may occur on the roads. Participants were informed of the appropriate actions to take in such situations and the importance of acting responsibly and in accordance with the law.
A total of 22 drivers participated in the session.
